SPANISH CHRISTMAS CAROLS
· Spanish Christmas Carols are called VILLANCICOS.
· Most of them consist of:
o Refrain: two, three or four lines beginning the song which repeat at the end of each verse.
o Verse: groups of lines which together develop the theme of the refrain.
· Most frequent themes are:
o The birth of Baby Jesus
o The Virgin Mary performing normal activities of a mother
o The adoration of the Three Kings
o The visit of the shepherds to the manger
o The joy of Christmas…
· They can be accompanied by several traditional musical instruments:
o PANDERETA = tambourine
o ZAMBOMBA = drum-like folk instrument used in Andalusia.
o ALMIREZ = metallic mortar traditional used in popular Andalusian folk music.

1. LA MARIMORENA
This “Villancico” talks about the great feast around the nativity. Marimorena means feast and Ande means come on.

2. LOS PECES EN EL RÍO
This Andalusian Villancico deals with the Virgin as a mother who acts as any other mother (do the washing, comb her hair, and so on). The chorus makes reference the way the nature celebrates Jesus Christ birth (Look how fish drink in the river / they want to see Jesus).

This Andalusian Christmas Carol deals with three bells which sound to celebrate Christmas. We have chosen the first part of the song. It follows “Campana sobre campana / y sobre campana dos/…. Campana sobre campana / y sobre campana tres/….

This chorus has been quite popular in the last decades. It is excellent for our project as it combines both languages, Spanish and English. We hope you enjoy singing it.

This song comes from a Christmas show we performed two years ago. The story was about the fairy we put on top of the tree and how she thought she was more important than any other Christmas decoration. Through the story she learns that the Nativity figures and the birth of Jesus are the most important part of Christmas. This song is about the tinsel which we use to decorate the tree with.

La visita a Gloucester
A principios de octubre nuestro colegio participó en unas jornadas de hermanamiento con centros escolares ingleses. Durante cuatro días 14 profesores de la provincia de Cádiz tuvimos la oportunidad de conocernos, compartir nuestras experiencias docentes, hacer turismo, conocer el sistema educativo inglés de cerca y tomar contacto con la realidad de los centros que nos habían asignado. Antes de regresar a nuestro país, los centros hermanados tuvimos que redactar un plan de trabajo para el curso escolar 2009/2010.
La experiencia fue muy positiva gracias a la organización previa que habían llevado a cabo la coordinadora de bilingüismo en la delegación de Cádiz, Carmen Sotelino, y la coordinadora inglesa, Mary Wormington.
Ahora, los profesores implicados trataremos de difundir la noticia del hermanamiento entre todos los miembros de la comunidad educativa (alumnos, profesores, padres y madres, antiguos alumnos,...). Nuestro principal objetivo es promover el intercambio cultural y la reflexión sobre las semejanzas y las diferencias entre países europeos.
Esperamos que todos se animen a conocer a nuestros amigos ingleses de CARRANT BROOK JUNIOR SCHOOL en Tewkesbury.

Propuestas de actividades
PROPUESTAS DE ACTIVIDADES POR TRIMESTRE
De octubre a diciembre
Hacer una presentación de nuestro país, nuestra localidad y nuestro colegio (powerpoint).
Trabajar aspectos culturales a través de las festividades (la fiesta de la vendimia, el día de todos los Santos, el día de los derechos del niño, la navidad, el año nuevo y los reyes). Se puede hacer una presentación en powerpoint o un blog.
Cuando trabajemos la navidad, también podemos hacer una selección de los villancicos más populares y grabar un DVD para enviar a los alumnos ingleses. Además, elaboraríamos una felicitación navideña para cada clase y una para la sala de profesores (un total de 8).
De enero a marzo
Continuaríamos trabajando los aspectos culturales a través de las fiestas: carnavales y semana santa.
Hacer una compilación de juegos, canciones y rimas tradicionales (canciones para la comba,…).
Estudiar algún tema de ciencias en común, como por ejemplo: el crecimiento de las plantas. Podríamos plantar alguna semilla y observar la evolución de su crecimiento con anotaciones y fotografías.
De abril a junio
Finalizar con las festividades propias de este trimestre (cruces de mayo y ferias).
Actividades relacionadas con la alimentación saludable (intercambio de recetas, preparación de un picnic,…).
PROPUESTAS PARA EL SIGUIENTE CURSO ESCOLAR
Posibilidad de organizar un proyecto comenius con el centro inglés, un centro francés, el nuestro y algún que otro socio europeo. Para ello, se pueden solicitar reuniones preparatorias en 2010, se presentaría la solicitud en enero de 2011 y se empezaría a trabajar en el curso 2011/2012.
No obstante, nos recomiendan el programa etwinning porque conlleva menos papeleo. Por eso, creemos importante estudiar la información que se nos ha dado en estas jornadas.
Algunas actividades se podrían llevar a cabo en el aula y otras como actividad extraescolar – que en Inglaterra suelen denominarse “clubs”-.
